The M56 has been closed round Manchester Airport due to what’s being described as a ‘police led incident’ within the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 2am, the North West Motorway Police workforce tweeted that they had been “on the point of shut the M56 at J5 eastbound” and “stopping visitors on westbound” previous to J4, “because of a police incident”. Minutes later, Nationwide Highways tweeted: “The M56 is closed eastbound between J5 to J3 (close to Manchester Airport ) because of a police led incident. Extra particulars to comply with.”

At 2.19am, roads and visitors monitoring service Inrix reported: “All visitors being quickly held and queueing visitors because of police incident on M56 Eastbound from J5 (Manchester Airport) to J3 (Princess Parkway).”
