It is no secret that Birmingham Airport has struggled to manage over the previous couple of months. Passengers have reported lacking their flights as a result of big safety queues – with lines sometimes snaking outside the building.

Like different airports within the UK, BHX has discovered it troublesome to maintain up with buyer demand after Covid-19 restrictions had been lifted. It hasn’t helped both that BHX was pressured to make nearly half of its workers redundant through the pandemic.

Airport bosses have admitted workers numbers haven’t but reached pre-pandemic ranges. Chief govt Nick Barton beforehand blamed a “12-week lag” between recruiting new staff and making them operational.

He mentioned earlier this month that the airport “needs to be in a significantly better place” by the “finish of Might”. However when will new workers begin? And is BHX nonetheless heading in the right direction to extend safety personnel this month?

A Birmingham Airport spokesman informed us: “We’re steadily growing our safety officer numbers.

We started actively recruiting in November. Since then we’ve elevated our safety workforce numbers by 19 per cent, with an extra cohort of newly educated safety officers as a result of begin subsequent week [commencing May 23].

“In the meantime we’ve extra new safety officers being educated. As soon as prepared, they too shall be deployed.”
